January Week 1

I have been working on new artworks, walking in the bush and on the beach and weaving string baskets this month. Death by Water, Resource Valuation, Look Closer artist books in various stages of creation.

Walkerville Walking

Walkerville on the Victorian coast is a rugged strip of headland and beach, with jagged rocks jutting out of the water. The beach is made up of sand and pebbles. Pebbles galore. All grey and bland looking above high tide mark but once they are dipped in water their personalities and history shines out.

Inspirations from Wilderness

From the mountains to the sea, from the sky to the earth, from the forrest to the desert - patterns, colours and textures fascinate me.

Random Memories of what the traveller saw when you were not there

A small book commemorating 6 years with images and thoughts. Given to some one very special.

Rail Trail Leaves

Every morning come rain hail and rarely shine we take a walk along the old railway line that runs opposite up. It meanders through the hills covered in eucalypt, over gorges of tree ferns and along babbling brooks for 13 kilometers. The air is thick with smells and sounds of the land and sky. The track is carpeted with fallen gum leaves as the weather warms. I have begun collecting them, fascinated by their rich tapestry of colour and pattern. I am toying with ideas for a new work.

Wild - An Elemental Journey

Wild – An Elemental Journey by Jay Griffiths.

I have just finished reading the most profound and important of books. It is stunningly written, alive with shape, colour and smell – it resonated deep within me and I highly recommend everyone read it. She has created words for my emotions that have for too long layered buried under the detritus of daily life. I am awash with images, words, feelings, sensations, injustices, rage and sadness. It is a book that shows you your need for wildness, for wilderness.
